Is your sunroof leaking or not operating properly? If so, you’re likely frustrated after every rain, or hot humid day when you’re unable to use your sunroof in a way that would fulfill its purpose. Team Acme offers a variety of sunroof repair services in Henderson, Nevada and surrounding areas. To ensure that our customers are always satisfied, we’ll do everything in our power to repair or replace your existing sunroof and have you hitting the road in no time!
Basics of Sunroof Repair
A sunroof is a horizontal panel, which is usually made of glass that is located on a vehicle’s roof. Sunroofs allow air to circulate throughout a vehicle on hot days and also provide car owners with a view of the sky at all times.
Power windows and power sunroofs offer similar functions, but power sunroofs often have to operate both vertically and horizontally (depending on the make and model). Sunroofs can be controlled manually or automatically, contingent on the vehicle model. For sunroofs that are powered electronically, drivers will often need to press or hold a button to open or close the sunroof.
While sunroofs are incredibly convenient, they can often become inoperable or begin to leak as they age. When these issues arise, it’s important for a car owner to enlist the help of a reputable company offering sunroof repair services.

One of the best things about living in Southern Nevada, especially in the Las Vegas area is the year-round beautiful weather. With this in mind, having a car that offers a sunroof can be a popular choice. There are however some disadvantages to having a sunroof on your car, especially new model cars that have full panel sunroofs that take up as much as half of the roof’s total surface. The most significant of these disadvantages is a byproduct of the sunroof intended function. See when the sunroof is allowing your car to be filled with all of that glorious sunshine that Nevadans love, is it also allowing the sun to increase the temperature inside your vehicle and damage the car’s interior surfaces as well.
Tinting your car’s glass surfaces including the sunroof is a great way to help keep the temperature down inside your vehicle, especially in the sweltering summer months. Tithing can also go along way to increase the privacy of your vehicle while at the same time helping to protect the interior surfaces of your car from cracking, fading, peeling, and other heat/UV related damage. All of this is not to mention that the UV entering your car can be damaging to your skin, hair, and most importantly your eyes while you are driving. The Tinting has been shown to decrease the internal temperature of your vehicle by as much as 60% and cut the UV entering your car by as much as 95%.
Having your side and back windows tinted is almost a necessity in the Las Vegas area. With that in mind you may have thought, why not get the sunroof of your car tinted as well. You may have heard however that tinting the glass of your sunroof could potentially cause the glass to crack or even to break completely. This is for the most part and urban legend, well sort of. There is a small amount of truth to it, but it has nothing really to do with the tinting of the glass and more to do with the way the glass is made. Allow us to explain.
The glass that makes up your sunroof is a type of special glass known as tempered glass. Tempered glass is used in almost all of the passenger compartment glass surface of your vehicle. Tempered glass is made by taking regular glass panels and rapidly heating them up and then cooling them down several times in a row. This process radically changes the structural makeup of the glass and as such makes it many times stronger than a non-tempered glass of the same size and thickness. Another quality of tempered glass is that it will not shatter or splinter when it is broken, instead, it will just bust up into tiny pebble-like pieces that have dull edges. These pieces will not cut or otherwise injure occupants of the vehicle during an accident or other situation where the glass is damaged. One thing that should be noted about tempered glass is that it cannot be repaired once it is damaged, it has to be completely replaced if anything happens to it.
Tinting a piece of glass, even your sunroof, will not inherently break the glass, but if there are already imperfections in the glass that make it structurally vulnerable it can increase the chance of the glass falling. This is due to the fact that the tint, to do the job that it’s intended to do, changes the amount of heat that the glass can absorb. This change in heat absorption can change the way that the glass expands and contracts when it heats up or cools. This change can lead to glass that already is vulnerable to cracking or breaking. It has nothing to do with the tint material or process, as you can now see, but rather the quality and condition of the glass itself.
Now that you better understand that adding window tint to your glass sunroof is perfectly safe in most cases, why not come see us at Team Acme. Our AGRSS certified techs will perform a comprehensive inspection of your sunroof glass and ensure that there are no nicks, cracks, or deep scratches which could be of consequence if the glass is tinted. We are the only AGRSS certified ship in the greater Las Vegas area to specialize in not only auto glass repair and service but also window tinting. If the glass is satisfactory for tinting, we will be happy to quote you how much it will cost and talk over options with you. If we determine that your sunroof glass is not satisfactory for tinting, we can discuss replacement options with you if you would like.

If you have a sunroof in your car, it is likely one of your favorite amenities on your vehicle. It provides immediate fresh air, a beautiful view of the sky, sunshine, and the ability to let warm air out of the car without opening the side windows. It gives your car a sporty look and allows you some flexibility without owning a convertible. But, just like your windshield, if the glass of your sunroof cracks, you need to know what to do to get it fixed.
What you should know about tempered glass
Most sunroof glass is made of tempered glass, as opposed to laminated glass that is nearly always used for your windshield. Tempered glass is made by rapidly heating and cooling the glass. This process gives the glass added strength and protects against shattering. So, if you are involved in an accident and your sunroof (or side/back windows break), the glass will not shatter all over the passengers in your vehicle. Instead, tempered glass breaks into small, dull, pebble-like pieces that very rarely cause any injury.
When tempered glass breaks, however, it generally cannot be repaired, but often needs to actually be replaced. So, if you notice a crack in your sunroof, it is especially important to get it to a reputable auto glass repair shop for an assessment. Cracks can very easily grow and the sooner your sunroof is fixed, the better.

Before the Auto Glass Safety Council was founded in the late 90s, the auto glass replacement industry had no standard for windshield installation. The industry had no yet reached a consensus regarding proper installation methods, which ultimately resulted in preventable fatalities and injuries. It also left many auto glass shops and their insurance providers facing legal action from people who thought their glass replacement was performed safely and correctly.
The Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard
Before the turn of the century, AGSC had partnered with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard (AGRSS), which addresses six critical areas related to procedures, education, product performance and the installation process including:
The AGSC requires random, independent third-party audits of Registered Member companies to further improve consumer safety and ensure that Members are upholding the Standard.
Testing and Certification for Auto Glass Technicians
The Council has also developed and continues to administrate the industry-wide technician certification and testing program. Through this program, auto glass techs can become either Accredited and Certified Auto Glass Technicians or Master Auto Glass Technicians. An online exam that requires techs to demonstrate their expertise in safe auto glass installation is required. A different test is given to each type of tech.
Membership is Currently Voluntary
Registering with the Auto Glass Safety Council and following the AGRSS Standard are currently voluntary actions that safety-conscious auto glass retailers take show their customers that they meet the ANSI/AGRSS Standard and that they are committed to safety and quality at the highest level.
Becoming a Master Auto Glass Technician
To become certified as a Master Auto Glass Tech with the AGSC, a tech must pass a 50 question multiple choice exam that shows their experience and knowledge in:
To qualify for examination, the technician must have over 3 years in the auto glass industry, hold an unexpired General Auto Glass Tech certificate and be an employee of a member company.

How Can The Sun Reach Me Through my Car Windows?
The burning ball of fire in the sky affects you more than you might think. It keeps us itty-bitty humans toasty and allows our world to flourish, but the radiation it emits can also damage people’s sensitive skin. The Sun releases radiation that travels down to Earth in two forms: ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. The windows on our cars cannot protect us from every harmful ray of the Sun. Typically, car windows can block UVB rays and most windshields can prevent UVA rays from penetrating the glass; however, side windows cannot keep UVA rays from reaching human bodies and overtime human skin is damaged by exposure to the Sun. Overtime, exposure adds up and human skin can be severely damaged. Skin damage includes: wrinkles, leathering, sagging skin, brown “age” spots and skin cancer.
So How Can Window Tinting Protect Me From Harmful UV Rays?
Clear auto glass with no additional tinting or coverage keeps out 97% of harmful UVB radiation and 37% of UVA rays. Cars that have clear or tinted film on side windows thwart 99.9% of UVB radiation and 80% of UVA. Wow, what a difference, huh?
Window tinting does not obscure vision for drivers. Plus, it adds a little more privacy to your vehicle. Ultimately, window tinting helps prevent skin from being damaged by the Sun and protects drivers from any glare and or outside the car.
Every window tint is different and there are some that are more effective than others. You should know that the best window tint out there can prevent 99% of UV rays, so make sure you know what you’re getting before you get it.
What Else Can I Do to Prevent Skin Damage from the Sun?
The amount of UV radiation levels that reaches the inside of your car depends on a few things. For instance, if your car windows are open or you have the sunroof open, or top down, window tints aren’t going to be of much use. But if you live in a hot climate or are in your car frequently, you should definitely consider window tints. Also, never forget to wear sunscreen. High levels of UV radiation can seriously damage your skin and affect your health. It’s always better to be safe than sorry—no excuses!
Laws Regarding Car Window Tinting
You knew there had to be a catch, right? There are laws that address how much light must be able to penetrate your car windows. The regulations vary state by state, but in most cases the laws are the following:

If you haven’t been in the auto glass industry, you’ve most likely have never heard of the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards (AGRSS), which is a governing body that has worked to create concrete standards for replacing auto glass. This governing organization has worked diligently to help educate those in the industry to ensure auto glass repairs are always done safely. When auto glass repairs are incorrectly done, it can lead to disastrous consequences for both the installer and the car owner.
Are All Auto Glass Repair Shops AGRSS Certified?
Surprisingly, the majority of auto glass repair shops around the country are not AGRSS certified. In fact, there are very few regulations that govern how auto glass is installed and how technicians should perform repairs. This leads to different repair shops performing repairs in completely different ways, which makes it challenging for the customer to know who to trust.
Importance of an AGRSS Certified Auto Glass Repair Shop
Over your vehicle’s lifetime, your car windows take quite a beating. Rocks, debris and other objects frequently are kicked up by other vehicles and large trucks, which can all lead to windshield or window damage. When these instances occur, it’s important to turn to an auto glass repair company that will complete the job to ensure your auto glass will continue to perform its duty, which is to keep you safe.
AGRSS Technician Certification Details
The AGRSS Technician certifications are quite involved. Each technician must take an online exam that consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. These questions span a variety of topics including:
