Perfection isn’t perfect, but it is the goal. When getting a vinyl car wrap, you want your installer to be knowledgeable and skilled so you do not have issues down the road. Protect your investment and your wallet by choosing the right company.
Before you commit to a vehicle wrap, be sure you know who is installing it. You want someone that is certified and offers a warranty. Going to inexperienced people is a guarantee that you will run into additional costs later. An experienced, certified tech has been through training and can anticipate challenges and knows how to handle them.
Look into the actual printing process. Certified installation companies will usually have their own in-house printer. If they do not, then expect a delay in installation. Ordering the print from a third party can result in the incorrect colors or design. Certified companies consult with you and can supply a sample on the spot to ensure you get exactly what you pay for.
The type of material they use is also a factor in a great wrap. Qualified professionals will be using top quality vinyl that is durable and extends the life of the wrap.
A sloppy wrap will present you with many issues that will require a repair. One thing to keep an eye out for is bubbling and creasing. Caused by air trapped under the wrap, they mean the seal is compromised and will tear or peel quickly. In extreme cases of a poor wrap, once peeling begins, it could also pull the paint off with it, resulting in the need for a new paint job after removal.
A poor wrap will cost you more than you bargained for. When peeling or bubbling occurs, you cannot simply fix the spot. The entire panel will need to be replaced and the damaged vinyl needs to be removed without disturbing the panels around it. Replacing a section of wrap can be very difficult. Most graphics are created when ordered, not from a lot, making the design hard to duplicate from an outside provider. The vinyl color has to be matched exactly, and if there is a pattern or graphic, that has to be redesigned as well.
Often, the original wrap will have some degree of fading due to the sun and elements. Even if your new patch design comes out perfectly, the color difference will still be obvious. To correct this, a color correction needs to be done.
Keep in mind that all of these repairs are costing you in labor and materials on top of special services like color match. This is in addition to your initial investment in the wrap. Sure, you can save money by going to a cheaper dealer, but if they are not skilled in proper installation, it will cost you more in repairs than going to the professionals.
