What to do When your Window Tint Starts Peeling

Window tints aren’t immune to the effects of sun exposure. After years of exposure, the adhesive that binds the tints to the window glass starts to break down, causing the film to detach slightly at the edges. Unfortunately, in some cases it doesn’t take years of exposure. Some installers have used poorer quality tints, which in turn have dramatically increased the chances of something going wrong over the life of the tinting material.

If your window tints are starting to peel, it could be because of a poor installation job, too. A poor installation could lead to the formation of bubbles in the window tints, which can cause peeling if ruptured. Poor quality materials are a major issue as well, especially when sunlight is involved. In the greater Las Vegas metro, heat and ultraviolet light can cause some types of window tints to peel.

Whichever category your vehicle tints fall under, it’s recommended to get them replaced before the adhesive hardens over time, becoming difficult to remove. Once the tinting sheets have been removed, our specialists shouldn’t have any difficultly replacing them with something that meets or exceeded all of the relevant industry standards involved.

Getting Your Window Tints Removed and Replaced

At Team Acme, we start with looking at your vehicle. This tells us if we have access to all of the windows with tints. The process lets us determine how we’ll remove the film and glue. For areas that can’t be easily reached, we remove the interior trim panels to facilitate access.

Our crews don’t cut corners or take any shortcuts. We act in a way that doesn’t necessitate replacement anytime soon. After all, you shouldn’t need to repeat this process all over again.

Process For Removing The Section Of Tint

We then carefully use a razor blade to lift a corner of the film away from the glass. Then we use a super steamer to loosen the tint and soften the glue. As the film is heated, it is slowly pulled away from the window glass, which allows time for cooling the tint.

Everything is removed until the underlying glass is all that remains. In some cases, we’ll find that previous faulty installation jobs left multiple layers of material over certain areas of the glass. This is technically against policy and not something our own organization would ever even think of doing. They’ll remove everything fully before doing any further work.

When the tint is completely removed, we check the window glass for any leftover glue residue. If any residue is found, we use razor blades and a glass cleaner to efficiently clean the glass. Since the back window glass holds heaters and antennas, Team Acme uses a steel wool cloth and glass cleaner on that area instead.

Everything is done gently however, regardless of what sort of area is in question, to ensure that no damage is done to the underlying glass. Naturally, we work hard to avoid damaging any of the other pieces as well. You’ll be sure the next time you switch on your stereo you get an FM signal and not static.

Some cars might have additional problems related to older tinting jobs, however. We’re ready to deal with that too, though, when removing the tint.

Fixing Serious Peeling Tint Sheets

In more serious instances, when the glue embeds itself into the pores of the window glass, we’ll have to replace the window. Since it’s crucial to have all of the glue removed from the vehicle, we might have to get to areas like the bottoms of panels, break lights, and various edges and corners. It all depends on how the previous installation was done.

In some cases, other technicians might have used too much glue. Or they have tried to put on more than one layer of tinting over yet another previous installation. This will all have to be taken off, and our crews are up to the challenge if it does.

Making sure no glue is left behind is crucial. Any residue can actually hamper the installation of new window tints. Leftover glue can cause the new film to fall and leave visible specs behind. The result ultimately requires a new window tint or glass replacement.

Fortunately, we have you covered here as well, since our organization also does side window replacement when necessary. That being said, we’ll do everything we can to preserve the existing piece of glass. You won’t have to pay for anything unnecessary.

We use the optimal installation methods as well as the highest quality materials in the industry. Both ensure an efficient window film removal and installation process. Every tint removal job differs with each unique vehicle.

Motor vehicles that do need new glass, however, will be outfitted with a high quality piece of material. This glass will hold up to as much use as the original if not more.

Trust A Professional To Apply The Tint

If you try to replace your tints yourself or leave the job to an amateur, you could risk damaging your vehicle’s window glass. It can get to the point where a tint replacement will turn into needing new window glass. With Team Acme, you can rest assured that your vehicle is in the right hands. We’ve even made sure to pay close attention to all of the relevant regulatory questions.

The state of Nevada does have some guidelines regarding how much tint you can apply. Thus, our crews won’t put on too much material. You’ll be able to stay within these guidelines once everything is redone.

Best of all, we’ve put everything into play that helps protect your motor vehicle glass. The crew will give you the kind of tint you wanted in the first place.
