At Team Acme, we’ve been offering a variety of auto glass repair and replacement services for a number of years in the Las Vegas area. Heated back window replacements stand among the more complicated auto glass repair services we offer.
When you’re replacing the back glass of your vehicle, you’re often dealing with an array of complicated components that should only be handled by a reputable auto glass replacement provider. The following are a few questions that we’re frequently asked.
Common Questions Related to Back Window Replacements
Many vehicle owners may not realize that a properly installed, and urethane bonded back windshield helps to contribute to the overall structural integrity of your vehicle. While it’s often the windshield that is referenced when discussing vehicle strength and auto glass, this also extends to the rear window glass.
The amount of time before you drive your vehicle after a heated rear window replacement varies greatly by manufacturer. This time can range from 1 hour to 24 hours, or more before your vehicle is considered safe to drive and has met Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Unfortunately, due to the way that heated back glass is manufactured, it cannot be repaired because of the crack. Attempting to repair a heated back window can result in serious injury, because the repair can cause what is known in the auto glass industry as a “hot spot (or short)” in the rear glass that can eventually cause the glass to explode.
After having your heated back window replaced, it’s important to avoid high pressure sprays for at least 24 hours. While rain or hand washing your vehicle shouldn’t be a problem after installation, higher pressured sprays should be avoided for at least 24 hours to ensure that the urethane adhesive used to mount the rear glass has properly cured.
