Auto Glass Back Glass Replacement

« Back Teran Marsell | Published on November 16th, 2015

Auto Glass Back Glass ReplacementWhen a vehicle’s window glass is shattered or broken, it can be quite the hassle to fix. Usually, the windshield is the most popular part of a vehicle that drivers worry about repairing, but the rear window is just as important. The back glass is the area that faces the vehicle’s bumper.

There are several threats your vehicle’s rear window is exposed to on a regular basis. These include road debris, rocks, and accidents, to name a few. If your car gets forcefully rear-ended, chances are you’ll need to replace your back glass. Here are some things to keep in mind when getting it repaired.

Repair Procedures

Auto glass should be repaired meticulously. A vehicle’s back glass can have antennas for radio and electronics as well as motion for ventilation, so making a wrong move can make bad go to worse.

A poorly done repair can result in a damaged heating (defrosting) system and a negative impact on the vehicle’s ability to withstand a roll over. Weak repair jobs can also result in a roof crush in the time of an accident. To avoid any risk on the safety of the driver/passengers, Team Acme takes a systematic approach to each unique repair.

  1. Preparation. The appropriate window is chosen to apply to the vehicle. Following suit, the right urethane and attachment method are chosen.
  1. Clean Up. The broken glass is removed from the vehicle and the interior is cleaned and vacuumed before disconnecting the interior panels.
  1. Assessment. The new glass is compared to the old glass to make sure the former is properly placed/attached, and so connections are implemented correctly. This is also done to ensure that the new glass is the right size.
  1. Installation. Once the glass is prepared, a weld is pinched in to be ready for the urethane and selected attachment scheme. The new glass is installed along with the correlating electronics. If the interior trim needs to be reinstalled, that’s done, as well.

After-Replacement Care

There aren’t really any regulations when it comes to deciding when it’s safe to drive your vehicle after the back glass replacement is done. Nonetheless, Team Acme uses a one-hour urethane cure after the installation is complete to ascertain the achievement of the best results possible.

The urethane will help make sure the window glass is sturdily set in place to be safe enough to go for a drive. After all, having a risk of shattered glass would defeat the purpose of repairing your rear window glass.

Different vehicles require the application of different types of urethane. For example, luxury cars generally require high modulus or non-conductive urethanes. It’s critical that the right urethane is applied in order to avoid the risk of negatively affecting the vehicle’s stiffness or aluminum corrosion.

Team Acme’s Treat

At Team Acme, we offer a back glass replacement warranty for workmanship and leaks for the vehicle’s lifetime. If the vehicle is sold, the warranty isn’t transferrable. Call us today for more information about the warranty and about our rear window glass replacement process.
